The Silkscreen Bambi Series shows the evolution of our urban animal. The completion, as Paco dares to call it. This is the most powerful picture of our series, where Bambi stands strong on her own, set loose from her surroundings. This is the minimal depiction. The bare abstraction.
As the silk screen technique depicts Bambi in layers of paint printed on top of each other, the art itself beholds a laminated history. It all started with a photo collage with a surreal scene of a lovable and vulnerable Bambi, placed in a contrasting high speed urban environment. Bambi then sprang to life, in a full body sculpture 3D printed in bright colours. She grew up into the mother deer of the Bambi-series: a great shiny sculpture. This new aluminium cast interpretation forms the core of the evolution into a new Bambi.
Paco Raphael graduated from The Hague University with a degree in Applied Sciences in Communication & Multimedia Design. As a creative in advertising, he never stopped exploring ways to improve his work and its impact on the world around him. Working for big brand names like Philips, Renault, G-Star, Bol.com and MTV Networks, he evolved into a senior graphic designer. Still ambitious to explore more and better, he restated himself as artist, combining conventional art with digital media.
Pushing his limits and the limit that separates art from design, he now puts his ambition and abilities to work as an industrial designer, uniting his artwork with innovative materials and products. Paco Raphael shows a new approach to all that surrounds us in life, from a painting to furniture or fashion. And we doubt he’ll stop here.
