Lisa Krannichfeld | Pattern Play
Lisa Krannchfeld is an iconoclast of the best kind, subverting the artistic preoccupation of traditional portraiture with women as the object of the painterly gaze by portraying the diverse range of emotions and attitudes of the individual character. Breaking traditions further, Lisa often uses traditional Chinese ink and watercolour materials in a non-traditional uncontrolled, free-flowing way. Her portraits are fresh and intimate; delicate detail is transposed to expressively free-flowing lines.
Lisa grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, raised by her Chinese family in the cultural melting pot of the American South. Her work has been well received throughout the USA and internationally with some prestigious awards including the 57th Annual Delta Juried Exhibition showcasing contemporary American art from Southern artists.
Pattern Play’, a solo exhibition by Lisa Krannichfeld, will be on show at Retrospect Galleries from the 14th to the 18th of September.
