'Tender Affliction' is a drawing in graphite and gouache that artist Allison M. Low created for the Singapore Writer's Festival under the theme "Sayang Sayang". It was displayed at the Singapore Arts House for the duration of the event. The word 'Sayang' is a Malay word which holds a number of connotations; the most colloquial use of which is to describe affection for someone.

The image depicts three friends balanced on what seems to be the ground that has been lifted from its original place, travelling into the unknown. This symbolises trust and reliability, wherever their relationships might take them. They are each holding on to a red string which is attached to the floating platform.

Allison has said about this work "As we all have experienced, no relationship is great all of the time. Sometimes, we want to let go what ties us together but in doing so, we fear that the ground will fall from beneath us. A subconscious love (hands from chest) between friends is enduring. It connects them to each other and keeps them safe no matter what."

Allison M. Low is an artist based in Singapore. Fascinated by the human condition, she works primarily as an image maker and her practice has recently expanded into the fields of murals, installation art and digital projections. After graduating with a Diploma in Visual Communications from Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, Allison obtained a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from the College of Fine Art (UNSW) in Sydney where she majored in drawing and painting.
