Suspended Arrival | Caitlin Reilly | Shanghai Courier – Culture

Caitlin Reilly and Australian artist living in Shanghai, recently sat down with me to discuss her work, her journey as an artist, and her upcoming exhibit. As she sits before me – with her infectious charm, dynamism and creativity – I see a woman who war born, rather than made, to be an artist.

Courier: What motivated your decision to work as an artist?
Caitlin: As a child I used to cut out my favourite pictures and articles form The Sydney Morning Herold after my father finished reading it. Much to my mother’s disgust, I would then paste them on my bedroom walls – on top of the wallpaper! For me, it was a way of connecting my parents’ world to mine and crating a reaction. Even if that reaction was negative, it was still a reaction and this was better than being ignored.
