BIO

Marina Anaya has studied a variety of artistic disciplines, with an emphasis on printmaking and painting. Marina earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Cuenca, Spain, in 1996. She was accredited in the same year by the AECI (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation) in Florianopolis, Brazil and extended her practice by teaching and researching in the field of Plastic Arts.

Marina continually works on her own practice and projects. Between 1996 and 1999 she attended Doctorate degree courses in La Habana, Cuba. Her work in this period was influenced by her environment and a passion for vivid characters and colours.

In 1998 Marina moved to Madrid, Spain, where she now lives and works. Marina is passionate about promoting printmaking as an art form, exploring new ways to enrich this technique and concentrating on the environment as a theme. As a result, Marina places a large focus on using non-toxic products in her work.

Marina has been involved in a wide variety of individual and collective exhibitions, not only in Spanish galleries she works with regularly but also in foreign cities such as Shanghai and Amsterdam. ARTMADRID and STAMPA are other important art fairs which endorse her works. Apart from printmaking, painting, and sculpture, she is also devoted to other related fields such as design and illustration.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In painting I enjoy the colours and spontaneity. In printmaking I let myself be surprised by the process, the technique provides important to the outcome of the work part. I have my own workshop stamping and enjoy working with inks and different parts of the process. After 20 years working with engraving I created my own way to work the plates and that is rejected in the outcome of the prints. And in sculpture I am guided by power of the materials. I love working with brass and wood. I spend most of my time doing what I like to do most; sharpening crayons and making little drawings in a notebook. These drawings will become paintings, sculptures, engravings and other things like jewellery or ceramics.

The style of my work is colorful, bright and simple lines. It represents loving and beautiful moments of life. A positive worldview and a commitment to the happy part of life. I find inspiration in love, nature, wind, birds, travel, Latin music and jazz.
