A Brisbane photographer has gained a worldwide following with her restoration and recreation of fine art photos originally taken by a Romanian war photographer in the 1930s.

Jane Long discovered photos taken by Costica Acsinte, a Romanian photographer who began a studio after he was discharged from World War I.

The Brisbane-based fine art photographer stumbled upon the Romanian photos on Flickr when looking for images to restore.

More than 5,000 glass plate images were discovered in a barn and donated to Lalomita County Museum, a regional museum in Romania, before being digitised by curator Cezar Popescu in 2013.
